Ange - Counsellor & Founder of Peri to Post

Hello, my name is Ange, welcome to my counselling private practice, Peri to Post.

Taking the step to see a therapist is a big one which can bring many emotions. Finding a therapist who 'gets you' and who you can feel safe and vulnerable with is important and sets the foundation for your experience in therapy.

Before you consider working with me, here is a little bit about me so you can gain a sense of whether we might be a good therapy fit.

As mentioned, I am 'newly' post menopausal. I recently turned 51 and have struggled with peri/menopause symptoms for a few years, maybe longer. I have realised that life and family responsibilities and stress throughout my forties left me oblivious to peri symptoms and I honestly knew very little about the symptoms until this year when my ovaries said good bye and I had a severe onset of hot flushes, sleep disturbance, low mood and just not feeling like myself. Brain fog was also setting in hard and so was my frustration at not being able to focus on tasks like I could before.

This started a deep dive into menopause resources, joining menopause specific groups and learning about MHT/Menopause Hormone Therapy (also called HRT), mental health impacts and anything evidence based I could get my hands on.  Within a few months I knew that I wanted to support women just like you (and me), to help you navigate mood symptoms and stress, this is my 'why' for specialising in menopause mental health. Bringing my own lived experience means that I can more easily understand how peri symptoms might be impacting your emotional and mental well-being.

I am Mum to two gorgeous and spicy teenagers, one who has a severe intellectual disability.

I have two dogs, Jack Russell x Foxy's who are wild and very lovable.

I indigo dye and block print, creativity helps me work through stuff!

I am a survivor of childhood trauma and sexual abuse.  My forties has been a decade of 'midlife reckoning', trying to make sense of why I am the way I am, the deeply ingrained patterns, conditioning and trauma driven behaviours that have caused heartache and grief. My struggles and healing path (the life long path) have certainly led me to wanting to be a counsellor. I have a calm, caring nature and a genuine curiosity to understand what it feels like to be you.  The space I create for you in therapy is heart led (but also practical and non-fluff!), I know that feeling validated and truly heard without judgement can change your life.

I invite you to turn up as you are and I will do my very best to help you feel welcomed and comfortable.

I would love to speak with you.

My

Therapeutic Approach

My counselling and therapeutic approach is person centred, creative and holistic : mind/body & nervous system focussed.  I create a warm, safe and supportive environment where you feel valued and understood.  Together, we’ll explore your feelings, thoughts and experiences in peri/menopause and midlife and practically work through your mood symptoms and concerns. Targeted menopause support is tailored around your experience, I understand it is not 'one size fits all' and my approach reflects this.

I integrate creative and mindfulness techniques into our work together. Through these practices, you’ll have the chance to learn coping skills and ways to reduce stress that can be used in practical ways every day.

I have been told that I 'bring the calm' to sessions and it's something I am grateful to do in my work, to sit alongside you, be a steady presence and hold space for you.
